Yle Iso-paja

Landmark building in Pasila, Helsinki 1993

The Headquarters for the Finnish Broadcast company Yle is built on an outcrop of Finnish granite. The main facades are clad with Finnish granite tiles, laid in between horizontal stainless steel strips. The large glazed, public courtyard opens up to the street on one side.

The two elliptical forms along the interior street were named after the Little Swan and the Big Swan found in the Finnish national epic Kalevala. The building has had an important role in representing the Finnish openness and transparency in the media.
